Lois Romano’s new book An Inconvenient Widow: The Torment, Trial, and Triumph of Mary Todd Lincoln draws on hundreds of archives, letters, and memoirs to provide the most complete portrait of Mary Todd Lincoln.

Romano is a long-time national political writer for The Washington Post, Politico, and The Daily Beast. She started her Post career in the paper’s Style section writing political profiles. During her tenure at The Post, she covered campaigns, started the Poses Reliable Source Column, was a regional correspondent, and covered higher education.
